budgie smugglers

These are my contributions to the book which Nahum refered to. Let me just say I have learned my lesson and will never voluntarily include a crowd in any illustration EVER again! Nahum's chef is great, I love the stewing bookworms... they are entering a world of pain.

Book Soup

A piece for an educational book - both me and Matt shared the load on this project. It was rather fun.

Andy

I haven't done ANY art on the computer for a long time now. This is a really quick piece, only 3 hours. I've wanted to do an Andy Warhol character for a while now. I might finish the background later.... maybe.

Ralph....he ain't smart

Here's another set of faces for another character. Man this was a grind, hence the lack of variation. That said he's not an overly complex guy when it comes to emotions.

Power Down / St. David

Here are a couple pieces which I finished recently. "Power Down" is A3, "St. David" is A2. Both are on wood, using a combination of paints, posca pens and ink. The photos are a bit crappy, apologies.

more kewpies

Here are a couple more customised kewpie dolls. I had a horribly messy posca blowout on the 3rd doll, but I recovered...

kewpie

I found these dolls in a craft shop near my train station. They are a well known character named Kewpie(chan), the icon from the Japanese mayonnaise brand of the same name. Kewpie (the mayo) is delicious and the character is universally recognised in Japan, maybe more so than Hello Kitty even (who is not actually all that popular in Japan). Usually old ladies or whoever make little costumes for the various sized Kewpie dolls. I thought it would be more fun to paint them a ghostly white and use them as a novel canvas. I did a similar thing in 1st year university, but that was far more full of teen angst and it was a much bigger generic baby doll. This doll is about 12cm tall and though challenging to draw on, I think it looks cool. I am currently waiting for the white coat on three more dolls to dry...

Revised Sketch - A Night In

Couple o' characters

Here's some recent character finals. You can see from the sketches how much I actually tweak the finals in freehand.... I'll get around to using illustrator at some point... but as it stands I'm happy with how they're turning out. yeh yeh I gotta finish his hand too......

various images that will one day become finals...

jet momonga

This is some artwork I've done for a Japanese rock band named "Jet Momonga". They didn't have any particular image in mind, they just wanted to use anything in my style. They wanted something non-literal and to quote every member of the band "cool dake" (just cool). They liked the black and white, and the mish mash of elements. Here is the original sketch which they chose and the almost/more or less finished front cover.

* For some reasons the preview of the final cover doesn't display the text and some of the patterns, please click the image to see the full size correct image.

bound of the golden eagle

Another installment to my Distorto Superhero series... I am happier with it now, though there still seems to be soemthing about it that didn't grab me like the last 2. Anyway, I still may tweak it or do an alternate 'dusk' version - just to add more atmosphere.

deserted panda suit

I haven't posted anything for a while. I have been doing loads in my sketch book, but nothing digitial. This is an A2 piece on wood that I finished recently. I am especially happy with the wave (centre, bottom).

Design Festa pics

A brief look at Design Festa...

our spacious booth C-763 (1.8 x 1.8m)

the coolest thing I saw all day, not the most practical vehicle on earth, but a retro style bubble window goes a long way - show off!

Our friend Naoko, the happy recipient of hand drawn (on) BeFriendly cushion.

This is the story of 'Little Red' and his adventure towards the forbidden fruit of the 'Forever Forest'.

Little Red will make his grand debut at the Design Festa in Japan this year.
